Installation Guide for Digital TV Antennas – From Pro‑Logic
Installing a digital TV antenna properly makes the difference between weak, flickering reception and a stable, clear signal. At Pro‑Logic, you can either install your own antenna with this simple guide or have one of our technicians set it up on Luthuli Avenue for you. Either way, these steps work for most indoor and outdoor digital TV antennas used with modern LED, Smart, and decoder‑based TVs.
Step 1: Choose the right antenna and location
If your Kenya‑TV signal is strong and your house is close to a transmitter, an indoor digital antenna (flat or loop‑style) on or near the TV is usually enough.
If signals are weak, or you are in a far‑out or shadowed area, use an outdoor digital TV antenna mounted on the roof, balcony, or a high wall facing the broadcast tower direction.
Avoid placing the antenna near large metal objects, thick concrete walls, or powerful electronics that can block or interfere with the signal.
Step 2: Prepare the antenna and tools
Unbox the antenna and check that you have: the antenna element, mounting bracket or pole, and coaxial cable (usually 75 Ω RG‑6).
For outdoor installations, have a ladder, adjustable wrench, screws or clamps, and optionally a signal booster or amplifier if Pro‑Logic recommends it for your area.
Make sure the TV or decoder is turned off and unplugged while you connect cables.
Step 3: Mount the antenna
For indoor antennas:
Stick the flat antenna to the wall behind the TV, on a window‑side surface, or lay it on a shelf near the TV with the cable pointing toward the input.
Keep it as high as possible and away from other devices to avoid interference.
For outdoor antennas:
Secure the mast or pole to a solid point on the roof or wall using brackets and screws.
Mount the antenna element on the mast and rotate it so it faces the direction of the nearest TV tower (this can be confirmed by signal‑mapping sites or by Pro‑Logic’s technician on‑site).
If needed, attach a signal amplifier near the antenna or by the TV, following the amplifier’s wiring diagram.
Step 4: Connect the coaxial cable to the TV
Run the coaxial cable from the antenna to your TV set or decoder, avoiding sharp bends or pinching.
At the TV/decoder end, screw the coaxial connector into the “Antenna” or “RF‑IN” port on the back. Tighten it by hand so it is snug but not over‑tightened.
If you are using a Digital TV decoder (e.g., for Free‑to‑Air or similar services), connect the antenna to the decoder’s antenna input, then use an HDMI or AV cable from the decoder to the TV.
Step 5: Run a channel scan
Plug in and turn on the TV or decoder.
Go to Settings / Menu → Channel / Tuning / Auto‑Scan and select “Antenna” or “Air” as the source.
Let the TV or decoder complete a full channel scan; this may take a few minutes.
If you do not get all expected channels, go back to the antenna, slightly adjust its angle or height, and run the scan again.
Step 6: Secure and test the system
Fasten loose cables with clips or ties so they do not hang or get accidentally pulled.
Check picture quality on several channels and test the antenna after heavy rain or strong winds; if the image degrades, re‑check the antenna orientation and cable connections.
If you want a professional, Pro‑Logic‑style installation, our technicians can handle the full setup—including pole mounting, cable routing, amplifier connection, and signal‑optimization—so you enjoy clear, stable TV reception from the first channel scan.
